Barbadian Lani Cabrera continued her good start to the 2015-16 season as she helped the Florida Gulf Coast University defeat Boise State and Utah in Salt Lake City on Friday October 30 at the Ute Natatorium. The Eagles are now undefeated in dual meet action with four victories.
Lani won the 100 yard freestyle in 10:16.92 to be unbeaten in the event this season. A week earlier Cabrera who is a senior had recorded a personal best in the event of 10:11.92 in the Eagles victory over Notre Dame. She also placed fourth in the 500 yard freestyle in a time of 5:03.52. At the same meet against the Fighting Irish Cabrera clocked a season best time of 4:57.32.In her final event of the meet Cabrera clocked 53.68 as the opening leg of the Eagles B 400 yard freestyle team to help them to fourth overall in a time of 3:33.70
Evita Leter of Suriname also helped the Eagles cause as she clocked 28.60 on the breaststroke leg to help the A team to fourth in a time of 1:46.56. The junior from Paramaribo clocked 1:04.36 in the 100 yard breaststroke to finish third. She was eighth in the 200 yard breaststroke in 2;28.65
Trinidad and Tobago sprinter Kristin Julien also added to the points tally. The sophomore from San Fernando anchored the 200 yard medley relay with her freestyle split of 24.32. Julien was twelfth overall in the flat 50 yard freestyle in 25.10.She finished ninth in the 100 yard backstroke in 59.52.
The final results in the Division One matchup saw the Eagles beating Boise state 159-140 and Utah 165 -135 respectively.
