PIGOT TAKES THIRD IN 100 BUTTERFLY WHILE MORLEY RECORDS SEASON BESTS IN QUAD MEET ON FRIDAY

On Friday October 30 the Universities of Indiana, North Carolina, Kentucky and Tennessee met in a quad meet in Bloomington, Indiana. The nations of Suriname and Bahamas were represented by freshmen Zuhayr Pigot and Laura Morley respectively.

Pigot who holds the CARIFTA 15-17 100 metre butterfly record had a wonderful debut when he clocked a personal best of 47.33 in the 100 yard butterfly on Oct 10 against Georgia. That time was the sixth fastest in school history. On Friday he clocked 48.29 to place third overall. He had fourth place finishes in the 200 yard medley relay and the 400 yard freestyle relay. He helped the Tar Heels B team to a total time of 1:29.94 with his butterfly split of 21.81. He split 45.84 on the third leg on the B team again to help them stop the clock in 3:01.27.

Morley recorded season best in both the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke events. Morley clocked a season best of 1:05.90 in the 100 breaststroke to place twelfth overall. Morley had recorded times of 1:06.90 and 1:06.08 in the first two meets for the Hoosiers.  She recorded a drop of over three seconds to post a time of 2:20.53 in the 200 event and place ninth overall.

The final results had the North Carolina men turning back all challengers .They defeated University of Tennessee Knoxville 166 to 134, Kentucky was beaten 236 to 64 and Indiana were pipped 152 to 146.

For the Hoosier women they dispatched Kentucky 230 to 70 but lost to Kentucky120 to 180. They also lost to 145 to 153 to Tennessee.
