Bahamian freshman Joanna Evans continues to do well for the University of Texas as they beat Texas A&M at College Station in Texas on Friday November 6.
Evans won her second consecutive 1000 yard freestyle race when she took the event in 9:47.61.That betters the 9:55.24 she recorded on her debut. She also clocked 4:50.10 for runner up in the 500 yard freestyle as Texas beat Texas A&M 166 to 134. Evans was just off the 4:49.67 she registered in October.
Evans is one of the best distance freestyler swimmers coming out of the CARIFTA region. She holds the senior national records for the Bahamas in the 200, 400 and 800 metre freestyle events as the 400 metre individual medley. She won a historic bronze medal in the 800 metre freestyle for the Bahamas and the region at the 2014 Youth Olympics in Nanjing China. She is continuing the trend the region has started in recent years of producing quality distance swimmers to include Jamaican Olympian Janelle Atkinson and French Antilles Coralie Balmy
