Bahamian Joanna Evans continued her impressive start to her college swimming career by remaining unbeaten from three starts in the 1000 yard freestyle. The University of Texas freshman has improved every time she has competed in this event and the dual meet against University of North Carolina last night Friday November 13 was no different. Evans clocked 9:45.10 to drop over two seconds from her previous swim. Her margin of victory was more than 10 seconds. That effort has her third overall in Division I. Evans owns the CARIFTA 13-14 800 metre freestyle record with a time of 9:11.82
With the just the break of the men’s 1000 yard freestyle she was back in the pool to finish 6th in the 200 yard freestyle in 1:50.69.That time is just off her 1:50.49 season best set in October. The 15-17 CARIFTA 200 metre freestyle record was set by Evans this year in Barbados and stands at 2:03.00.
Evans would however record a season best in the 500 yard freestyle. She clocked 4:48.84 .Her margin of victory in this event was just under 5 seconds. The CARIFTA 15-17 400 freestyle record was also set by Evans in Barbados this year. The new standard is 4:16.48.
Despite Evans performance The Longhorns went down 146 to 154 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
