Suriname’s Renzo Tjon A Joe was the top performer on the final day of the Arena Pro Series Minneapolis on Saturday making the championship final of the men’s 100 metre freestyle. Renzo clocked 50 .32 split time 23.58 to finish 7th in the final. He was faster in the morning having registered 50.27 split time 24.02.Both swims were under the Olympic B standard time of 50.70. Renzo holds the national record for Suriname having posted 49.47 in the heats of the 2015 PAN AM Games.
Dylan Carter was 4th in the C final with a time of 51.32 split time 24.87.He too was faster in the morning as he clocked 51.24 split time 24.40. Carter’s best time is 49.10 from the final of this event at the 2015 PAN AM Games.
Countryman Joshua Romany was 40th in 51.94 split time 25.28.
George Bovell III was 119th in 59.19 .He was clearly only looking for a 50 metre time as his split was 22.98.
Bermuda’s Lisa Blackburn was 74th in the 200 individual medley putting up a time of 2:27.20 split time 1:09.43. Blackburn holds the national record with a time of 2:24.98 from the 2012 Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships in Aruba.
In the 100 metre freestyle for women Chinyere Pigot of Suriname was the fastest posting a time of 57.39 split time 27.71 for 36th overall. Her national record stands at 56.89 .The Olympic B qualifying standard is 56.34
Rebecca Heyliger of Bermuda was 81st in 59.42 with a split time of 28.39. Countrywoman Madelyn Moore was 91st in 59.95 with a split time of 28.28.Moore won this event in the 13-14 age group at CARIFTA 2015 in 59.86 just missing the 1995 championship record of 59.54 set by Sangeeta Puri of Trinidad and Tobago.
