KEANAN DOLS SHINES AT 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

 

 

Jamaica’s Keanan Dols had his best ever performance at the Florida High School Athletic Association 4A state championships on Saturday November 14 at the Sailfish Splashpark Aquatic Athletics Center. Dols copped two Gold and two Silver medals.

Dols started the meet with Gold in his first event the 200 yard medley relay. His Riverview school won the event in 1:33.30 .Dols contributed the second fastest butterfly leg of the relays with a 22.15 split.

In 2014 Riverview had won the Silver medal in 1:36.04 with Dols again doing the butterfly clocking 23.25.

 

His Riverview team stroked their way to Gold as well in the 400 freestyle relay .They took the event in 3:06.02 .Keanan swam 46.05 on the second leg. His time of 46.05 was the 3rd  fastest split of the A and B finals.

In 2014 Riverview had finished in 2nd  place in a time of 3:09.65 with Dols providing second leg duties with a split of 46.97.

In individual action Dols, who is the fastest Jamaican age group swimmer in backstroke events won Silver in the 100 yard backstroke in 50.40. He was faster in the preliminaries clocking 49.95.

In 2014 Keanan was 4th in this event in a time of 51.42. Dols represented Jamaica at the World Junior Championships this summer in Singapore and set a new 15-17 and senior national record in the 200 metre backstroke clocking a new standard of 2:05.08.

In the championship final of the 200 yard individual medley Dols worked his way to Silver in a time of 1:50.11.He was slightly faster in the morning heats stopping the clock in 1:50.08. He has continued to show tremendous improvement in this event. In 2013 he was 2nd  in the B final in1:55.43 .In 2014 he was 4th in 1:52.50.

At the World Junior Championships he lowered his own age group record in the 200 metre individual medley to 2:07.82. He is closing in on the senior national standard of 2:05.60 by Andrew Phillips .Phillips set the record at the 1984 Olympics when he finished in 6th in the then A finals. Phillips is now a Head Coach at Big Gator Swimming in Miami. Dols is also nearing the Olympic B standard in this event of 2:04.39.

 

Also competing at the Meet was his countryman Xavier Phillips representing Atlantic. Phillips finished 20th in the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:00.75. Xavier betters his placing of 22nd in 2014 when he registered 1:02.53.Xavier was finalist in the 50 metre breaststroke at 2014 CARIFTA championships in Aruba. He was also a part of the Bronze medal winning 15-17 400 medley relay team of Dols, Sidrell Williams and Nico Campbell that set the age group record of 4:02.77.

Aruban Andrea Van Den Berg‘s Cypress Bay finished 8th in the B finals of both the 200 yard freestyle and 400 yard freestyle relay. In the 200 yard freestyle relay Andre split 26.08 on the third leg to help them to a time of 1:43.66. In the 400 yard freestyle relay she again swam the penultimate leg clocking 56.95.Cypress Bay finished in a total time of 3:46.57. Andrea recorded top 8 finishes in the 200 and 400 metre freestyle events at this year’s CARIFTA championships in Barbados in the 15-17 age group.

 

Riverview won the boys section with 324 points. Cypress Bay was 43rd in the girl’s category with 4 points.
