Jamaica’s NYU freshman Mathew Lyn set three personal bests at the MIT Invitational held in Cambridge Massachusetts from Dec 4-6.
Lyn dropped almost 50 seconds in his 1650 yard freestyle to clock a season best time16:00.60 for 4th place. That performance will also rank as a personal best It is also well under the NCAA Division 3 B standard of 16:16.65 .Matthew who is a Business major also saw a massive season best drop in his 500 yard freestyle. Before the Invite his best time as a Violet was 4:56.36. In the heats he posted 4:43.45 just .01 off his personal best. That personal and season best was smashed as he finished 6th in a time of 4:40.84.
Competing in the 200 yard butterfly Lyn continued to drop time. He moved from a 2:06.20 done at the NYU Fall Invite to 1:58.04 in the heats. That personal and season standard would be lowered even further as he posted a time of 1:57.17 for 3rd in the B final.
Lyn was a member of the Jamaican 15-17 800 metre freestyle relay team that took the Gold medal at this year’s CARIFTA championships in Barbados. He also won the Bronze medal in the 1500 metre freestyle.
The Violets finished 2nd overall with 1,230 points.
