JORIS BOUCHAUT AND CORALIE BALMY SHINE AT CHRISTMAS MEET IN NIMES

Joris Bouchaut and Coralie Balmy were the star performers among a number of CARIFTA region swimmers who competed at the Christmas meeting in Nimes France from Dec 18 to 20.
Bouchaut who hails from Pointe-à-Pitre Guadeloupe found himself on top of the podium in the 1500 and 800 metre freestyle. He took the 1500 metre freestyle in a time of 15:14.83. He won the 800 metre freestyle crown in 8:02.02. He was 2nd in the 400 metre freestyle in 3:52.94. In the 200 metre freestyle Joris was 4th in a time of 1:52.58.He only competed in the heats of the 200 metre individual medley where he was timed in 2:11.28.
Bouchaut holds the CARIFTA 15-17 record for the 1500 metre freestyle at 15:45.04. He set the standard in 2012.He also started competing for DAUPHINS TOULOUSE OEC in that same year. Joris represented France at last year’s World Championships in Kazan where he finished 14th in the 800 metre freestyle in 7:52.37. He is a strong contender to make the French Olympic team for the 1500 and 400 metre freestyle events.
Also putting in a good performance was Coralie Balmy of MONTPELLIER 3MUC NATATION. Balmy who is from La Trinité, Martinique was also a double winner. She took the 400 metre freestyle in 4:08.07. Coralie also won the 800 metre freestyle in 8:36.65. She was runner up in the 200 metre freestyle in a time of 1:59.84
At the 2015 World Championships she was 23rd in the 200 metre freestyle in 1:59.70. Her 4 x 200 freestyle relay team finished 8th at the championships in a time of 7:55.98.Balmy provided a 2nd leg split of 1:57.59 which was the fastest split for the team.
At the 2013 World championships she had finished 14th in the 400 metre freestyle in a time of 4:10.70.The 800 metre freestyle had won the Bronze in a time of 7:48.43 where she anchored the team with the 2nd fastest split of the final of 1:56.02.
At the 2011 World Championships the 800 metre freestyle relay team finished 4th in a time of 7:52.22 with Balmy handling 2nd leg duties in a time of 1:58.00.
In 2009 at the Rome at the World Championships she was 11th in the 800 metre freestyle in 8:31.39.She was 4th in the 400 metre freestyle final in 4:03.29. France took the bronze in the 800 metre freestyle in Rome in 7:50.18 with Balmy providing the 2nd fastest split of the final with a time of 1:56.18.
Teammates of Bouchaut at DAUPHINS TOULOUSE OEC who won medals at the meet included Lorys Bourelly. Lorys won Silver in the 200 metre freestyle with a time of 1:50.45.He was 5th in the Championship final of the 100 metre freestyle in a time of 50.34 .Bourelly had recorded a faster time in the heats clocking 50.28.In the 50 metre freestyle he finished 8th in 23.31.In an off event he finished 36th in the 50 metre breaststroke in a time of 36.06.
At the Kazan World Championships he was member of the French team that finished 11th in 7:12.68. His split on the 3rd leg was 1:47.45. He received a Gold medal in the 400 metre freestyle relay swimming the preliminaries clocking 49.11 on the 2nd leg.
At the 2013 World Championships he again split 1:47.45 in the 800 metre freestyle relay final to help France to 4th in 7:04.91.
Ganesh Pedurand (DAUPHINS TOULOUSE OEC) won his medal in the 200 individual medley when he took the Silver in a time of 2:03.24. In the freestyle events he on the B final of the 50 metre freestyle in 23.35.Ganesh only swam the heats of the 100 posting a time of 52.34.He was 7th in the 200 in a time of 1:53.84.He finished 2nd in the B final of the 50 metre butterfly in a time of 25.65.
Competing in the sprint events Nosy Pelagie of EMS BRON had his best performance in the 50 metre freestyle placing 5th in 22.94.He was 7th in the 100 metre freestyle in a time of 50.90.He was 6th in the 50 metre butterfly in 25.14. He went faster in the heats clocking 24.96.
Also competing at the meet was Dorian Pedro-Leal of MEGAQUARIUS CLUB GUYANE.His best performances were in the butterfly events, He was 7th in the 50 metre event in 25.17 and 8th in the 100 in 56.51. Dorian was faster in the heats of the 100 clocking 56.04.He was 24th in the 50 metre freestyle in 24.53 and 24th in the 100 in 53.67. Pedro-Leal .In the 200 metre freestyle he finished 10th in the B final in 2:01.29.In the 2oo individual medley he was 14th overall in 2:14.48.
Teammate Qulaüs Quammie had his best result in the 50 metre butterfly finishing 4th in 25.10.He was 2nd in the B final of the 100 metre butterfly in 56.59. Quammie made the B finals in the 50,100 and 200 metre freestyle races. He was 4th in the 50 in 23.92.He was the victor in the 100 in a time of 51.32.In the 200 metre race he finished runner up in 1:54.51. Qulaüs only competed in the 400 metre freestyle heats posting a time of 4:10.06.
