JAMAICA’S PLASCHKA HAS 4 PODIUM FINISHES AS NOTRE DAME GOES DOWN TO VIRGINA

Notre Dame returned from their winter break from competition to take on Virginia in a 2 day dual from Friday January 8 to Saturday Jan 9 against Virginia at the Charlottesville Fitness & Aquatic centre.
In their ranks was Jamaican sophomore Justin Plaschka who had 4 podium finishes. Justin started off the meet with a win in the 200 yard freestyle relay. He helped the Fighting Irish A team to the win with a 20.43 opening leg that propelled the team to a total time of 1:21.29. The 20.43 split by Plaschka is his second fastest for the team this season.
In the 100 yard freestyle he had the fastest opening 50 yard split of 21.20. Despite that he lost it at the wall to team mate Tabahn Africk 44.69 to 44.74. The time was however his second best performance of the season.
Plaschka finished 2nd again in the 100 yard butterfly. He registered a time of 49.02 with a split of 23.24.
He ended the meet with a win as Notre Dame A took the 400 yard freestyle relay. The team won with a time of 2:59.37 aided by a 44.96 opening split by Plaschka. The team lost 170.5 to 182.50 to the University of Virginia who are the defending Atlantic Coast Conference.
In 2015 Plaschka set senior national long course records in three events. The 50 metre butterfly , the 100 metre backstroke and the 100 metre butterfly which he set 3 times.
