Bahamian freshman Joanna Evans continued with her winning ways on Thursday January 7 when the University of Texas battled Auburn in Austin. It was the case of same event the 1000 yard freestyle same result VICTORY for Evans who posted her 6th consecutive win .Joanna, who is unbeaten in this race also won in a new personal best time of 9:43.81 .The margin of victory in the event was more than 5 seconds. She followed that up with a win the 500 yard freestyle in a time of 4:46.63.The victory in the 500 freestyle event marks her 3rd in her fledgling NCAA career. It also stands as her 2nd fastest ever time.
Also competing at the meet was the Auburn duo of Jamaican Breanna Roman and Christian Selby of Barbados. Roman swimming the 100 yard breaststroke placed 8th overall in 1:06.09.Her Tigers D team finished 7th in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:44.98. Breanna’s breaststroke split was 29.71. Swimming on the B team in the 200 yard freestyle relay the sophomore split 23.57 on the 2nd leg to help them to 2nd overall in 1:35.34.
Selby who is a freshman at Auburn was 6th in the 200 yard freestyle in 1:42.30.He placed 8th in the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:15.75.His Tigers D team were 3rd in a time of 1:24.57.Christian started the relay with a split of 21.69.
Texas won both men and women’s competitions. The Eagles down the Tigers men’s team 156 to 136.The women triumphed 171 to 121.
