JOSIAH MORALES OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO AND DEANDRE SMALL OF BARBADOS SECURE WINS IN WAYLAND BAPTIST’S FIRST MEET OF 2016

The Wayland Baptist University swim team travelled to California to take on Chapman University in their first meet for 2016.It would be the Pioneers first competition since the Tiger Invitational in November. According to head Coach Alyson Hannan the dual meet was really a test of how training was progressing .Hannan had the team completing more than 13,000 yards a day during the winter training period.
Josiah Morales of Trinidad and Tobago won the 200 yard freestyle in 1:52.73.That was his first time competing in the event for the season. He anchored the Pioneers men to first place in the 800 yard freestyle with a split of 2:01.20. The total time for the team was 7:54.28.
Deandre Small of Barbados won the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:10.11.She also swam the 2nd leg on the 800 yard freestyle relay team. That Pioneers team finished 4th in 8:46.51.Small’s spilt time was 2:05.49.
Hadassah Morales was 4th in the 100 yard backstroke in 1:08.51.She also swam the backstroke leg on the 200 yard medley relay team that finished 2nd in 1:59.90. Morales was timed at 30.28 for her opening leg duties.
The Pioneer Men won their competition 153 to 41.The Women however went down 133 to 86.
