TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO’S KIMBERLEE JOHN WILLIAMS RECORDS SEASON BEST AND BAHAMIAN JOANNA EVANS HAS TWO 2ND PLACE FINISHES IN GEORGIA AND TEXAS CLASH

On Saturday January 9 the University of Texas hosted Georgia in a major Division 1 dual meet clash at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. Representing the CARIFTA region at the dual meet were Longhorns freshman Joanna Evans of the Bahamas and Georgia’s Kimberlee John Williams of Trinidad and Tobago.
Williams lowered her season best in the 200 yard backstroke from 2:10.69 to 2:08.85 and finished 6th . She was also 6th in the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 56.50. Her best finish of the meet was 4th in the 200 yard medley relay. The Lady Bulldogs B team finished in a time of 1:44.72.The team assisted by Kimberlee’s opening backstroke split of 27.34.
Evans entered Saturday’s clash undefeated in the 1000 yard freestyle. She would not be able to hold onto to the undefeated tag as she finished 2nd in the event .She clocked 9:45.74 in her runner up performance. The event was won by Georgia’s Brittany MacLean in 9:38.35 .MacLean holds the NCAA record in the event at 9:23.78 and won the NCAA championship titles in the 500 and 1650 yard freestyle in the 2013 -14 season. The Bahamian distance standout would finish 2nd to MacLean in the 500 yard freestyle as well 4:46.30 to 4:42.74.
Georgia would win the closely contested clash which was decided by the last event of the day the 400 yard freestyle relay. The final score had Georgia tallying 155 points to 145 scored by Texas.
