JUSTIN PLASCHKA WINS SPRINT FREESTYLE DOUBLE AS NOTRE DAME DOWN NORTHWESTERN

On Saturday January 16, 2016 Notre Dame hosted Northwestern in a close dual meet encounter at the Rolfs Aquatic Center.
Swimming his way to two victories on the day was Jamaican sophomore Justin Plaschka. He won the 50 yard freestyle by the closest of margins .01 of a second .He out touched Northwestern’s Almog Olshtein 20.58 to 20.59. That marked his 3rd victory in the event this season. He completed the freestyle sprint double when he won the 100 yard freestyle in 45.74.
Plaschka would earn another top 3 finish in the 200 yard medley relay as his Fighting Irish B team of Rob Whitacre, Zachary Stump and Reed Fujan placed 2nd in 1:31.83. Justin had the fastest butterfly split of the relays as he was timed at 21.57. He would place 5th in the 100 yard backstroke in 50.72.
Notre Dame won the meet tallying 166 points to Northwestern’s 132.
