Heading into the Florida Gators clash with the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville on Saturday January 30 Trinidad and Tobago’s Emiro Goossen was in good form. That good run of form continued   into the contest between the two Southeastern Conference Championships SEC heavyweights.

 

Emiro gave teammate Pawel Werner all he could handle in the 200 yard freestyle .The Twin island Republic representative actually led the field at the 100 with a split of 47.65 .At the finish however Werner proved too strong taking the event in 1:37.35 . Goossen was rewarded for his race strategy with a new personal and season best clocking 1:37.84. It bettered his personal best of 1:38.03 recorded in December. It was also faster than the NCAA Division I B cut of 1:37.99.

He just missed recording another season best in the 100 yard freestyle. Emiro clocked 44.58 just missing his season and personal record of 44.46 also recorded in December.

He joined teammates Bayley Main, Jack Blyzinskyj and Christopher Margotti in going under 3 minutes for the 400 yard freestyle relay. They clocked 2:58.01 for 3rd with Emiro posting 44.19 for his 3rd leg.

Teammate and country woman Tyla Martin saw action in the butterfly events. In the 200 yard butterfly Tyla came close to setting a new personal best. She clocked 2:02.60 for 6th just outside her best of 2:02.20. In the 100 yard butterfly .It was however good enough for a season bettering the 2:04.33 she posted in November. She just missed her season best in the 100 yard butterfly with an 8th place swim of 56.29.Her season best of 56.15 was set in November.

The Gator men would win their contest 185 to 115. The women also won 170 to 130.
