The first day of action of the SEC (Southeastern) Championships got underway yesterday Tuesday February 16 in Columbia Missouri at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. It proved a good day for the CARIFTA region as Aruban Mikel Schreuders helped the Tigers to a new school record in the 800 yard freestyle relay.
Heading into the conference championships the fastest time produced by the Tigers this season was an NCAA Division 1 B time of 6:23.12 in November which was the 2nd fastest time in programme history. The team of Michael Chadwick 1:34.62, Schreuders 1:33.66,Nick Davis 1:36.44 and Carter Griffin 1:34.45 went to the top of the all-time rankings with a new school record of 6:19.17 to finish 4th overall. Schreuders who holds the senior national long course metres record for Aruba had the 5th fastest time overall in the relays. It was also under the NCAA automatic qualifying time of 6:21.54.
Aruban team mate Jordy Groters swam a time trial in the 100 yard freestyle .He clocked a season best time of 44.14. It was also under the NCAA Division 1 B time of 44.29.
