The first day of the 2016 Ivy League Championships got underway on Thursday February 18 in Princeton New Jersey. The CARIFTA region was represented at the Conference Championships by Trinidad and Tobago’s Alexandria Donahue (Brown) and Jamaicans Kendese Nangle (Dartmouth) and Trudiann Patrick (Columbia).
All three ladies competed in the 50 yard freestyle but it would be Nangle who had the best placing .Kendese lowered her season best of 23.24 to 23.08 in the morning to make the B final. She would go on to win the final in a time of 23.12. Donahue also lowered her season best of 24.28 to 23.38 in the morning swim. Alexandria would place 3rd in the C final with a time of 23.58.Patrick finished 34th in the event in a season best time of 23.73. Her previous best for the 2015-2016 was 23.40.
In the 200 yard freestyle Donahue’s Brown Bears finished 4th in 1:31.86 .Donahue handled the 3rd leg duties with a 22.73 clocking. Nangle’s Big Green team finished 6th in a time of 1:32.34.Nangle led off the team with 23.05 effort. That lead leg is the 2nd best 50 yard freestyle of Kendese’s career. Her best effort was recorded at the 2013 Championships where she clocked 22.94.
In the 400 yard medley relay Donahue clocked 1:01.86 for her breaststroke leg as Brown finished 6th in 3:42.21.Nangle was timed at 58.35 for her backstroke leg as the Big Green finished 7th in 3:46.72.
