NCAA SWIMMING JAN 27: ACC Swimming Championship

The CARIFTA region had a representative in a championship final on the second day of ACC Championships through Justin Plaschka’s performance in the 50 yard freestyle.
Plaschka had broken the 20 second barrier for the first time earlier this season with a 19.92 clocking. The Jamaican sophomore would be even faster when lowered his personal best to 19.69.His split time was 9.46.He was under the NCAA B standard of 20.19. In the final he went out even faster with a split time of 9.44 but was marginally off his best with a 19.72 clocking which placed him 8th overall.
In the 200 freestyle relay he got the opportunity to start the relay for Notre Dame. He made good use of the opportunity by bettering his personal best again and touched in a time of 19.61. His first leg effort was the 3rd fastest of the opening splits His teammates Daniel Speers 19.12, Tabahn Afrik 19.80 and Michael Seaberg 19.80 used that early momentum to post a time of 1:18.46 for 5th overall .It also set a new programme record as it was under 1:18.74 set by Frank Dyer, Zachary Stephens, Matthew Buerger and Kevin Bradley in 2014.
Also competing on the day was the Florida State duo of Suriname’s Rafael Van Leeuwaarde and Aruban Jemal Legrand. Rafael was just off his personal best of 21.09 when he posted 21.10 for 47th. Jemal was 55th in 21.58
