ASHLEY YEARWOOD WINS FIRST 200 YARD MEDLEY RELAY MEDAL AT DIVISION 3 NATIONALS

The NCAA Division 3 Championships got underway yesterday Thursday March 16 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center, Greensboro, North Carolina .Representing the CARIFTA region would be Bermuda’s Ashley Yearwood of Denison.

The Big Red senior prior to these championships had never won a medal at Nationals. In her first year in 2013 the team missed the medal podium with a total time of 1:43.57. Her contribution was a butterfly split of 25.33. The year 2014 saw the team finishing just off the podium yet again when they were timed in 1:43.59 for 4th overall .On that occasion Ashley split 25.42 on the butterfly leg. Last year the Big Red team were 5th   in a time of 1:42.84 .Yearwood’s butterfly contribution was a 24.84 split. In this year’s Championship final The Big Red would not be denied their spot on the medal podium. The team of Carolyn Kane backstroke 25.91, Marissa Bednarek breaststroke 28.50, Yearwood butterfly 24.71 and Mary Van Leuven freestyle 22.82 pushed for Denison to get the Silver in 1:41.94.

In the 50 yard freestyle Yearwood was just outside earning a second swim when she hit the pads in 23.58 earning 19th overall. That 23.58  performance was her second fastest of the season.
