EVITA LETER HAS FOUR SEASON BESTS AT FLORIDA GULF COAST CLASSIC

The Florida Gulf Coast Classic was held between their home pool at their Aquatic Center from October 7 to 8.In action at the Classic were teams from Louisiana State, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, University of Utah and Rutgers. Representing the CARIFTA region at the meet was Suriname’s Evita Leter who represented Florida Gulf Coast Eagles.

Over the two day contest Leter recorded 4 season bests. In the 200 yard breaststroke she was 5th in the B Final in a time of 2:28.00 (split time 1:09.65). That is significantly better than her season opener of 2:36.84.

In the relay events her Eagles A team of Fanny Teijonsalo backstroke (26.24) , Yee Ching Wong butterfly (25.04) and Katie Latham freestyle (22.47) were just out touched for first place in the 200 yard medley relay. Their total time was 1:42.64 just behind Ohio State’s winning time of 1:42.54. That bettered their previous season marker of 1:43.75. Leter had split 29.07 in that performance. She was faster at the Classic with a leg of 28.89.

The Eagles A team also saw improvement in the 400 medley relay. The previous had stood at 3:48.07 but was lowered to 3:48.07.That placed the team 4th in the A final. Evita’s breaststroke split was again faster at the Classic dropping from 1:05.76 to 1:04.65.

Her B team in the 200 yard freestyle relay also saw improvement. They lowered their 2016-17 season best from 1:37.87 to 1:36.57 to finish 2nd in the B final. Her split on the 2nd leg was 23.97.

Leter, who is Finance major, just missed bettering her season opener of 1:05.16 in the 100 yard breaststroke. This as she was 6th in a time of 1:05.17 (split 29.84).

The Eagles finished 4th overall with 466 points.
