Bahamian Albury Higgs started her career as a collegiate swimmer for the University of South Carolina when the Gamecocks took the University of Kentucky on Thursday October 13.
The meet had the Gamecocks home pool, the Carolina Natatorium in Columbia South Carolina saw Higgs hitting the water for the first time as member of the B team in the 200 yard medley relay. Albury split 30.67 as her team finished 4th overall in a time of 1:46.90.
Next up was the 100 yard breaststroke where Albury placed 6th in a time of 1:06.63 (split time 31.12).She would finish 5th in the longer breaststroke race, the 200 yard event in a time of 2:22.70 (split time 1:08.78).
In her final event of the meet, the 400 yard individual medley Albury was the highest placed Gamecock with a 4th place finish of 4:30.89. The University of South Carolina lost the meet 103 to 197.
Higgs, who is the reigning CARIFTA champion in the 200 metre breaststroke, 200 metre butterfly and the 200 and 400 metre individual medley and the following thoughts about her first collegiate meet.
“I loved swimming in my first dual meet for the University of South Carolina. It was a great experience and i as happy to contribute some points in my events. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season! Go gamecocks!”
