ZANETA ALVARANGA LOWERS NATIONAL BUTTERFLY RECORD ON MORNING SESSION OF DAY 2

The second day of competition at the 32nd annual CARIFTA Championships in the Bahamas saw Zaneta Alvaranga lowering the national mark in the 1-12 50 metre butterfly and claim the top seed in the Championship final of the event. Team Jamaica will have 13 chances for medals in individual swims later tonight along with contesting 5 relay finals.

The relays to be contested tonight at the Betty Kelly-Kenning Aquatic Centre in Nassau will be the 11-12 boys 400 medley relay along with both genders in the 13-14 and 15-17 age groups.

Alvaranga speaking about her record breaking about her record breaking performance had these words about her preliminary swim

“I feel good but I think I could have done better at the start .But apart from that that the swim was pretty good and this afternoon I hope I can get the start and do better and break it again” .

Zaneta lowered the national record of 29.97 by Danielle Boothe when she won Gold at the 2009 CARIFTA Swimming Championships. The CARIFTA record is 29.09 set by Naele Portecop of Guadeloupe last year in Martinique.

A further 18 personal best times were established today for an overall total of 42.
